Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil Sesame is also known as teel, gingelly, benne or thunderbolt oil. Sesame is the symbol of mortality in Hindu mythology. It was also discovered to be one of the plants found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Originating the tropics of the East Indies, but has a long history of cultivation in places such as South America, Africa, China and India. he seeds are difficult to gather The seeds from where the oil is extracted yield around 55% oil, which is clear and pale yellow. Sesame seed oil has very similar properties to olive oil and, being a natural antioxidant, is incredibly stable. It contains high levels of vitamins A, B and E. It is rich in calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. It also contain lecithin. Because of its high vitamin content and antioxidant properties it is useful in products for mature skin as a free radical scavenger and for its regenerative effects. It is reportedly useful in products for dry skin, psoriasis, eczema and broken veins. It is an excellent skin softener. It is also a good addition in hair products as a brilliantine, moisturising shampoos and in treatments for dandruff. |
