Safflower oil - Cartamus Tinctorius Also called thistle oil and is related to the lettuce, chicory, artichoke, daisy and the sunflower. It is also called 'American Saffron' and is sometimes used to adulterate saffron. Safflower seeds and flowers have been used to for dying material. Safflower oil contains up to 80% linoliec acid and oleic acid and has a similar profile to sunflower oil. It is useful for helping to restructure and moisturise the skin and a good choice for formulations for eczema and rough skin. The oil has a very thin consistency and is a rather dry oil that is absorbed by the skin easily. |
